Here’s what we mean by certain terms we use.
“Big-V” Village (or formal village):
A village—care community—operating within a legal structure.
Care economy:
The exchange of care services and supports.
Community:
Three or more people united for a cause or around an organizing idea.
Cluster Care:
Cluster care is an approach to home care that allows many people living in proximity to be served by one worker or team.
Medicaid spend-down:
Medicaid is a joint federal/state program that helps cover medical costs for certain people with limited income and resources. Each state has different eligibility requirements, with some allowing people to “spend down” assets on medical expenses to qualify.
Solo Ager:
An adult, or couple, aging without the support of children or other close relatives.
Supportive Housing:
This usually refers to affordable rental housing with onsite services. Our vision is that supportive services would be standard in all multifamily housing.
Tiny village:
A care community comprised of 3 to 5 people.
